Assim como o Brazil, the USA também imports words de outros countries – e sometimes dá a elas um novo significado. Über is uma delas.
Über (com trema) é uma palavra from Germany que significa “above”.
Mas quando foi adapted to English, ela perdeu a trema and passou a ser used para express intensity, surprise, admiration or para substitute a palavra ‘very’ or ‘super’.
Uber = very
Eg: I’m uber confused.
Uber = super
Eg: A uber-model Gisele Bündchen está in Brazil now.
Uber = super
Eg: Her Family is uber-billionaire.
Finally, in 2009, in California, a palavra uber batizou the first unlicensed taxicab service to use a mobile app para acessar os services de independent drivers – idea que, some years later, chegou ao Brazil.
