A- A A+

False friends se parecem com friends, mas não são. Elas se fazem passar por words in Portuguese e nos deixam confuse. Vamos learn some false friends:

Groceries  (Pronunciation: GRÔU-ce-ríz)

Goceries is not grosserias. It’s vegetables and fruit.

Example: ”Please buy some groceries. Don’t forget the apples.”

Collar (Pronunciation: -lár)

Collar  is not ‘colar‘. It’s a part of your shirt.

Example: ”This collar está encardido. Coloque more soap, please.”

Cup (Pronunciation: CÃP)

Cup is not ‘copo‘. It’s the object where you drink coffee.

Example: “Brazilians drink 1.32 cups of coffee per day.”
