A- A A+

Ligers  and Tigons are hybrid big cats. Ligers have a lion father and a tiger mother. Tigons have a tiger father and a lion mother.

Ligers
(Pronunciation: LÁI-gãrs)

They are bigger than tigons and their parents. They look more like lions with stripes. Ligers can weigh between 1,000 pounds (453 kg) and 1,600 pounds (725 kg).

Tigons
(Pronunciation: TÁI-gons)

Tigons are rarer and smaller than ligers. They look more like tigers and inherit their behaviours (like swimming) . They socialize too (like lions).

Ligers and tigons are created by humans mating tigers and lions. They do not exist in nature, and many have genetic problems and die very young.
