A- A A+

Essa dupla confuses até mesmo native speakers!

Lay (Pronunciation: LÊI) significa put or place. É um transitive verb, portanto requer an object (thing or person).

Eg. Please, lay the pencil down.

Eg. Ela gosta de lay her towel na areia da beach.

Lie (Pronunciation: LÁI) significa rest or recline. É um intransitive verb, portanto não requer object.

Eg. After lunch, John lies on the chair.

Lie também pode significar dizer algo false. Neste case ele também é um intransitive verb, portanto não requer object.

Eg. Don’t lie to me, senão o seu nose vai crescer como o do Pinocchio!
