Charles Revson was born in the USA, and never went to college. He worked at Elka, a cosmetics company that did not promote him to the position of national distributor. So Revson decided to open his own business in 1932.
First, his company specialized in nail polish, offering the biggest variety of colors ever offered by a brand. It was sold at beauty salons and, later, department stores.
Revson put the nail polish on his own nails to test it and criss-crossed the country by rail to sell it.When his company introduced matching lipsticks and also perfumes, it was very successful.
Revson died in 1975 – but Revlon, his company, is still strong today.
